DRAWING NATURALLY

Linda Weil teaches a unique drawing workshop in nature studies and all things animal covering everything from wildlife (especially Australian) to pets to found objects in nature. This is not a class in ‘copying’ a photo – it is a journey into drawing using nature as a subject. ‘Drawing naturally’ will teach you to create living drawings using a variety of different pencil techniques and a limited palette of colours. Students will learn to refine the techniques needed for rendering with graphite, washes, colour, and carbon/charcoal pencils. As well as working in the 'dry' mediums the class will also explore different techniques using wash/water- soluble pencils (colour and graphite). Reference photos are supplied and will be discussed in depth - students may bring their own reference material if they wish. ‘Plein air’/life studies, photography and a variety of ‘found’ natural items including feathers, shells, seed pods and maybe the odd animal skull or two will be used to help familiarise students with the different mediums. The course features a comprehensive handout/workbook with detailed demonstrations. Linda is a very experienced art tutor and will show you all the techniques she uses in an easy to follow step-by-step approach: from tonal sketching to blocking in basic form, how she approaches colour using only two or three colours, adding layers of fur texture for realism, to the all-important highlight and character that breathes life into your art. Hands-on demonstrations and one-on-one tuition are a feature of Linda’s workshops.
