Environmentally friendly water-based inks will be used for the hand printing segment of the course.
The key areas to be covered are:
• Brief history of printmaking
• Design for woodblock
• Cutting and sharpening tools
• Hand printing with a baren
• Single and multi-colour registration and printing
Various printing papers will also be shown which are suitable for hand-printing.
Materials & Tools cost of $90.
The course is designed for beginners and for people who have a basic knowledge of lino printing and would like to try woodblock printing.
Informative notes with contacts to buy materials and further online lessons and Youtube videos will be given to allow you extend your learning further.

Small containers to mix colours

Sam has been involved in a wide range of art and design since graduating in Fine Art from the National Gallery School (Victoria). Sam currently divides his time between running his own commercial graphics studio, public art commissions, printmaking, painting and teaching life drawing and graphics at QUT in Brisbane. In 2012 Sam visited Japan and studied Japanese woodblock techniques and hand-printing with Richard Steiner in Kyoto. A solo Japanese inspired show in Byron Bay followed a year later.
