Among the many things you will learn in LIFE STORIES is what to include in your manuscript and what to leave out, how to develop a sense of audience and how to keep readers turning pages. Many wannabe life-story authors say that they want to write the story of their lives for their grandchildren and more often than not add that they have tried and failed many times. LIFE STORIES will show you how to succeed, no matter whom you are writing for. Your readers will know what it is to walk in your shoes. The course will encourage you to discard should and will give you the confidence to embrace what if as you discover possibilities that exist beyond the conventions. It is like no other writing course you will ever attend and for many it becomes a spiritual journey, a profound discovery of self.

Barbara Angell
|
As the title implies this course aims to teach writers, who may be proficient in other fields, the techniques of writing for television and film. As well as honing the existing skills of practising writers, it is also suitable for beginners. During these five days you will learn not only a wide range of techniques but to also have fun at workshopping your own 10-page treatment of a screenplay in company with a group of others. This will teach you how to work as a storyliner, using the methods employed universally by writers of TV series and serials.

| Write That Article...And Get It Published! |

Joanna Maxwell
|
Many people think, “I’d like to write articles but I tried once and couldn’t finish it (or got rejected), so clearly it’s not for me.” - Not so. – It is true that writing takes skill and that even professional writers get rejected sometimes. But it is also true that you can learn how to find a saleable idea, polish and shape it into a written piece, tailor it for a particular newspaper or magazine – and see your name in print. Do you have lots of ideas, but struggle to pick the best one (or any one, really) and stick with it until it becomes a finished story? Or are you OK at the writing bit, but can’t get your head around idea generating? Or do you let that pesky critical voice inside your head talk you out of sending your article to an editor? No matter what your particular challenge, there is a way around it. In this course, you’ll practise writing and researching, you’ll come up with ideas, tackle interviews, learn how to shape your work and deal with editors. This is a practical, product-oriented program but the emphasis is on inspiring you, rather than scaring you witless. Highlights include a press conference with a mystery guest, publishing a camp newsletter, writing excursions and the opportunity for private mentoring on your work. All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to send your inner critic out for a long lunch while you have some fun and try out new skills. At the end of the week, you’ll be ready to submit your article and get it published!
