What is Camp Creative?

It is a summer camp for families and individuals – a fun learning event where you mix with people of widely differing interests and ages in a relaxing and creative atmosphere. The accent is on imagination, innovation and enjoyment. The tutors are all leaders in their field who generously give their time for modest fees and who believe in the concept of Camp Creative, which is to give everyone the opportunity to find creative expression within themselves. Camp Creative will open your eyes to new ways of looking at things and looking at your self as well.

Who can come?
Anybody and everybody from age six to one hundred and six. Especially families, grandparents, parents and kids. If you come alone you’ll have the opportunity to make new friends in a friendly and encouraging environment.

In April, we sadly lost Bill Lockley. Bill started Camp Creative 22 years ago and we are all very grateful for the legacy that he has given us.
Thank you, Bill: you will always be remembered and greatly missed.

This year, Camp Creative will be celebrating the life and music of David Helfgott. Over the years, David and his wife Gillian have been extremely generous to Camp Creative, and the Committee has decided that it was time to show its appreciation. The Camp has commissioned acclaimed artist John van der Kolk to create a sculpture representing David that will be placed in the council park and be unveiled during the festival. This will also be an opportunity for everyone attending the 09 Camp to get involved.

Our program of more than 50 courses again offers something for all the family, and the Committee and I look forward to seeing you in January.

BRYCE COURTENAY is joined by DAVID HELFGOTT & GILLIAN HELFGOTT as Patrons. Bryce has been a long time supporter of the concept of Camp Creative and David & Gillian also are no strangers to Camp Creative. Gillian serves on our committee and even when she and David are overseas regularly keeps in touch. David's charisma and pianistic genius has enchanted us so often at the Celebrity Concert on Saturday night.

Bryce Courtenay says:
"People who say they haven't a creative bone in their bodies — who say they love music but could never play an instrument — or who would love to paint or to write - now have this wonderful chance to prove themselves wrong! Risk free. But of course there's really no risk. It's a lovely win win situation. If I can't be there in person I'll be there in spirit to cheer for both sides and to have my two bob's worth."
