Rose De la Montana

Rose De la Montana

Rose de La Montaña is a fingerstyle classical guitarist with a love for solo Latin American guitar music, where classical and contemporary popular guitar styles meet. Also a bandleader, songwriter and arranger, Rose's devotion to the guitar started from a young age and has continued into tertiary level education. In 2018, she completed the Masters in Music Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under the esteemed guitarist Dr Ken Murray, (Head of Guitar).

Inspired by the view of the Andes and her love for the guitar where she follows in the footsteps of solo Latin American guitarists and their music, she uses the name Rose de La Montaña (Rose from The Mountain). Her musical influences encompass the rich musical cultures that span Australia to Latin America. Having also lived in Chile and Brazil (2014-2015), Rose has been inspired by the thriving guitar cultures of these places.

Also a song-writer and arranger, Rose's solo guitar repertoire with a niche combines Latin American guitar music together with original music and arrangements.

Aside from her work as a soloist, Rose forms part of two exciting projects founded in 2018. Firstly, as bandleader, arranger and manager of Hermeto Magnético, an octet who uncover the music of the legendary Brazilian improviser and virtuoso Hermeto Pascoal. Secondly, as part of Colourful Collective, a cross-disciplinary art collective who combine film, poetry, live music and the visual arts to spread an urgent message of the destructive trail of plastic waste on Mother Nature and her oceans.

Rose de La Montaña lives in Melbourne, Australia.
