Camp Creative is a unique summer school, retreat and creative community that annually springs up for one vibrant week in January.
People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to this joyful hive of productivity, experimentation and learning.
Whether you're a novice, hobbyist or master artist, Camp Creative is an opportunity for a surge of creative energy and inspiration for your new year.
How does it work?
Over the week, you'll work with your tutor and fellow students to learn and create art, performance or handcrafted works. You'll benefit from small class sizes, practical demonstrations, quality teaching and feedback from experienced tutors dedicated to their practice.
Camp Creative is also more than just class time. Be entertained and socialise at events, concerts and creative gatherings and discover the talents of your tutors and fellow Campers.
How do I choose my course?
Whatever captures your interest! It's about growing an existing passion - or discovering a new one.
Keep in mind that some courses are designed for a higher level of experience or a degree of physical fitness. This is noted in each course listing.
Many of our courses book out very quickly. We do have waiting lists, but we can't guarantee a place in full courses, so plan your enrolment with a few courses in mind.
What will I learn?
Probably more than you think is possible in just a few days. Our tutors strive to provide you with the means to pursue or find a new passion.
You will be surprised at the new ideas you absorb – not only from your tutor but from the support and enthusiasm of fellow students. You will see things from a different perspective and discover new ways to achieve a result. You'll walk away full of knowledge, new skills and creative inspiration.
When does the Camp run?
All courses run over five days, from Monday morning January 13, to Friday afternoon January 17.
Start at 9.00 am and finish at around 4.00 pm. There is a one-hour lunch break at 12.00 pm and 1.00 pm, with breaks for morning and afternoon tea at the tutor’s discretion.
There are three enrolment options
- A morning course 9.00 am to 12.00 pm
- An afternoon course 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm
- A combination of two courses - one morning and one afternoon
Only certain courses run over half days.
Who are your tutors?
All our tutors are practising artists, performers and craftspeople, as well as experts in their genre and medium. For quality tuition, class sizes are kept small, and larger classes have assistants to provide additional support. Learn more about tutors in their course listing bio.
Where is the Camp held?
The beautiful rural town of Bellingen is home to Camp Creative.
Famous for its eclectic mix of boutique shops, galleries and string of great restaurants, cafés, and bars, Bellingen – ‘Bello’ to locals – was once a dairy village. Retaining its country charm, this historic town is now home to a dynamic community of artists and creatives and is the host of a number of annual creative arts and music festivals.
Camp courses are spread across multiple venues in Bellingen. The two main venues are Bellingen High School and Bellingen Primary School. Courses also run in a number of community halls in the town centre. These venues are serviced with a shuttle bus.
What skills do I need?
Our tutors design their courses to suit a level of skill and experience. This includes the degree of challenge in course exercises and projects, as well as individual attention and support required for each student. Each course notes the skill level required.

What courses are there for kids & teens?
Our kids’ classes start at age five, with our teen courses up to eighteen years. Each course listing specifies an age range, which reflects the maturity and skills required to participate in the course. You see all the courses in the Kids & Teens section.
A lot of courses have places for young people aged 12+, as well as adults, so it's worth checking out all the courses to see the age groups. There are quite a few great options for young people in visual arts, music, song, and craft.
There are also some courses open to people of all ages, from 6 years and up - Bollywood dance is a fun option this year!
