YOUR COURSE TUTOR
Carol Dobson
I am always looking for new art/craft skills and knowledge, and how these can be integrated into my current practice. I design and create brightly coloured works in polymer clay and felt which are sold at local markets and online. Monoprinting forms a cohesion between the two, creating pieces which include printed elements.
I teach both polymer clay and felting at both Fibre Frolic and River Yarn Fibre Festivals in NSW and am a regular tutor in Central West NSW. I have a relaxed teaching style, encouraging students to find their own voice.
I have also written tutorials for Beads Etc ... Magazine and Felt Magazine. I have exhibited in Sydney as part of Designers on Show, and at local Central West Galleries.
My work is exhibited at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and has been placed in the Standard of Excellence a number of times.

“I have attended a few of Carol Dobson’s classes: felting, collage and polymer clay to name a few. I have thoroughly enjoyed each class and had so much fun. I was able to come away and continue to enjoy doing it at home myself. Carol as a teacher is easy to understand answers questions so that you are able to understand. Carol also has everything you need for that class and a list of what you will need if you want to continue doing it at home. I’m hoping to enjoy more of her classes in the coming year.”

The class is structured to cater for those using the media for the first time, plus those wishing to extend their knowledge and skills.
Students will use a hand made gelli plate and brayer for the course with a recipe available to take home. Monoprinted papers can be used in card making or framed. They can also be used as a base for collage work, book covers and jewellery.
Polymer clay by itself can be used to create jewellery, beads and sculptures, it can also be printed and painted on.
Felting is more than wool. It can bond fabric, threads and yarns, and create three dimensional objects. Students will be encouraged to research their own interests.
Mornings will be spent introducing the media and user techniques. Afternoons will be for student exploration of the particular media covered that morning.
The course will culminate in students producing a mixed media piece or multiple pieces following their chosen techniques.
