YOUR COURSE TUTOR

Marion Hughes

Marion has been in her art practice for the last 30 plus years with 28 of those years dedicated to watercolour. She was always interested in drawing and painting and an introduction to decorative Art started the ball rolling.

The subject matter she chooses is varied and includes wildlife and birds, landscape, seascape, still life, floral and recently, figurative and portraiture.

Over the years she has attended several workshops to hone her self taught skills. These workshops have been taught by some well known artist/ tutors and in attendance at Mitchell School of Art held twice annually at Charles Sturt University campus situated at Bathurst , NSW.

Tutors who have influenced her are the late Keith Norris, Barry & Lucy McCann, Joseph Zbukvic, Denis Clarke, Herman Pekel, Ron Muller, Neil Taylor and recently, Kasey Sealy, Lorraine Lewitzka, John lovett, Amanda Hyatt, Paul Margoscy, Cherry Hood and she has a great admiration for Aine Divine who resides in the UK.

She spent a year at Werrington Tafe and a recently completed a Natural History Illustration course provided by Newcastle University and run by EDX where a mark of 98% was achieved and a great deal of knowledge. There is always more learning to be done.

Of late, she has embarked on teaching her art and finding a great reward in this venture. She teaches all over Australia at present with intention to take this overseas as she thinks she has a unique way to share her knowledge with others.

  • This course is all about having fun and learning the magic of watercolour. Watercolour has a chemistry that no other medium has. The aim is to get confident using it and enjoy the process.

You will learn about papers, brushes, colours and how to use them. Learn how to paint a scene or subject in watercolour, use light and colour and then enhance and emphasise using ink or pens to bring your work to life.

Get lots of tricks and fun things you can add to your work without the stress. Find your own artistic style and become confident in your painting.

Students will learn many techniques and tricks using watercolour and a bit of mixed media. They can expect to take home several small paintings and at least one major project incorporating the skills they will learn. Classes are fun and relaxed.
