YOUR COURSE TUTOR

Dianne Conroy

Born in Sydney, Dianne Conroy has been immersed in the world of art and craft for as long as she can remember. Coming from a lineage of makers—her father a artist, her mother a seamstress, and her grandmother a wedding dressmaker—creativity was all around her.

In 2025, Dianne was honoured as Australia’s Fibre Artist of the Year, a recognition of her dedication to both her art and her support of the Australian wool industry.

Dianne began her journey as a professional artist at the Byron Bay markets in 1986. She then lived abroad for many years, first in London, where she continued selling her textile creations at local markets, and then in Tokyo from 1990. In Japan, she founded a successful business working with vintage kimono fabrics, teaching her signature techniques in wall art, quilting, and handbag design using vintage kimonos, yukatas, and obis. Her classes were waitlisted for years, a testament to her skill and innovation.

While in Tokyo, Dianne also studied needle felting under some of Japan’s most esteemed fibre artists, developing a deep passion for felted art—a medium she continued to explore after relocating to Singapore. There, her work began to evolve into the sculptural and richly textured forms she is known for today.

Now based in Brisbane, Dianne runs Wild Woolly, where she creates bespoke fibre art pieces and commissions. Also with an online business selling all things needle felting. Her work draws inspiration from her love of animals, the intricate elegance of Japanese art, the lush tropical landscapes of Singapore, and the vibrant beauty of her Queensland garden.

Just completed my first felting class with Dianne and completed the project a Felted Fairy. Dianne is a knowledgeable and fun teacher and very generous with her product and sharing of her skills. It’s rare to complete a project in class time but not only did we do this but were able to purchase everything needed to continue with new skills at home. Cannot wait for the next class and hopefully opportunity for a play day! Absolutely recommend learning this skill with Wild Woolly!!

Spent a lovely afternoon with Di taking her beginner’s felting class to create a little fox. Di is so knowledgeable about this art form and her class is a great start to this. Will definitely do more classes and can’t wait to learn more.

I have never attempted felting, Di was amazing. She made the workshop so enjoyable easy to follow, Di was extremely helpful, patient and gave great instructions. My only regret is I didn’t book in for all 3 workshops. Thank you Di I had the best time. My little Maggie turned out great!

Di is a very skilfull, friendly and clear presenter. The workshop was excellent and very well priced considering the materials used and the benefit of Di’s expert instruction. My friends and I are so happy with our projects and looking forward to getting into more IMMEDIATELY!
