Botanical Tableware: Pasta Bowls & Accompaniments

$208.00

Participants will develop cohesive functional ceramic pieces inspired by botanical forms and the surrounding natural environment in this immersive two-day pottery workshop.

Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience, participants will be guided through the full creative process from concept through to completed pieces.

On day one, we will explore planning and design ideas, discuss the use of mould making and templates, and make our hand-built forms including pasta bowls and complementary pieces. Participants will also experiment with surface decoration techniques and gain an understanding of how texture and mark-making can enhance ceramic work.

On day two, participants will use either nature observations or photographic inspiration to develop a repeated design theme across their pieces, creating a sense of cohesion within the collection. We will explore line, contrast and pattern to create visually connected work with a strong individual style.

Participants will finish the workshop with guidance on the next steps for drying, firing and finishing their work independently after the course. Students will also be encouraged to extend their collection with additional pieces at home using the skills and processes explored during the workshop.

Melissa was an excellent teacher of adults – she provided materials to read, had everything prepped, and provided thorough instruction and support throughout the class. Experimenting with clay patterns was fun, and I’m excited to see the finished product.
