COURSE TUTOR
Nanette Backhouse
Nettie Backhouse is in charge of Punk Arts Collective and brings a multifaceted skill set to the workshops she devises. She is inspired by the make-do, re-use, re-purpose DIY aesthetic of the 70s and 80s Punk and New Wave scenes and the modern War on Waste and cost-of-living crisis.
Special effects: Has worked as a special effects costume fabricator for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in London on feature films and West End musicals including Lost in Space and Dr Dolittle.
Costume fabrication: Freelance Specialist Fabricator on Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Judge Dredd, Farscape, Star Wars — Episode 2 and an ongoing list of private commissions.
Freelance commissions: Jasper Conran’s Edward II for the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Hercules for EuroDisney, and Janet Jackson’s London tour, among others.
Specialist Tambour Couture Beader: For the Atelier of bespoke corset maker, Mr Pearl, creating signature couture pieces for John Galliano/Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mughler and Philip Treacy.
She also has more than 30 years' experience as an award-winning graphic designer.
Thankfully, she's a pretty ordinary cook, otherwise she might be entitled to be a bit egotistical.
