Master Foundational Vocabulary: Develop a functional bank of signs covering greetings, family, time, money, food, and daily routines.
Fluency in Fingerspelling: Gain speed and accuracy with the manual alphabet to spell names, places, and unfamiliar words.
Utilise Non-Manual Features: Understand and apply facial expressions and body language, which are essential grammatical components of Auslan.
Navigate Deaf Culture: Gain insight into the lived experiences and social practices of the Deaf community, including modern communication tools and social etiquette.
Immersive Communication: Build confidence in a "voice-off" environment, relying on visual-gestural cues to express ideas and needs effectively.

COURSE TUTOR
Anne Sheppard
After contracting meningitis when she was 21 months old, Anne became profoundly deaf.
She attended the School for the Deaf Girls at Waratah, where she was taught to lipread and speak, which can be very difficult at times. Anne learned to sign Auslan later in life, and because it gave her such freedom of expression, it became a passion.
This motivated her to study how to teach Auslan. She has been doing this now for 35 years at University, Tafe, Schools, AtWea, preschools and in private tutoring.
Anne loves new experiences and meeting new people and she feel so honoured to share this empowering gift with others.
Karen Lantry will be Anne’s Auslan interpreter for the week.
