COURSE PLAN

EACH DAY

We kick off every day with a new model, practicing fast, high-energy gesture sketches to capture movement and energy. This warms us up & helps to relax into the day. Followed by a series of exercises with specific focus on a fundamental aspect of drawing. We then settle in for longer poses to develop these new skills and explore self-expression.

DAY ONE - Understanding General Proportions & measuring

  • Focus on the foundational "skeleton" of a pose, learning to map out basic lines and shapes quickly.

  • Learn how to use your pencil for measuring & angle sighting to get anatomical proportions spot-on.

DAY TWO - Light, Shadow & Tone

  • Dive into the world of shading, exploring how to use tone to give your drawings a sense of weight and 3D depth.

  • Experiment with dramatic lighting setups to capture high contrast highlights and deep shadows.

DAY THREE - Proportion & Perspective

  • Develop your looking & measuring skills to understand complex foreshortened forms.

  • Work through poses to practice foreshortening and tricky angles without losing the balance of the figure.

DAY FOUR - Heads, Hands & Feet

  • Focus on how to tackle these challenging aspects of the body with an understanding of their principal proportions, shapes, and underlying structures.

DAY FIVE - Sustained Poses & The Finale Portfolio

  • Put all your new skills together for a series of longer, sustained poses with the final model of the week.

  • Select your favourite drawings to present a diverse portfolio that shows off your incredible progress.
