Connect with the magic of nature! This immersive, hands-on course explores the art and science of herbalism, through the fascinating intersection of traditional wisdom and modern science.

Students will learn the uses of common herbs, forage and process wild plants, and basic herbal first aid. We will practice plant identification, botanical drawing, and the art of growing herbs. We will explore and create fresh and dried herbal tea blends, a herbal salve, bath mix, and flower essences.

Our magical journey also explores divination, dreams, synchronicity, plant communication, and the wheel of the year. A major project across the week will be the creation of a beautiful, personalised grimoire (magical spellbook) using mixed-media collage and drawing. We will also use these elements to create herbal zines (self-published booklets) to share our stories.

Wrap up the week by making vision boards for the year ahead and learning how to safely apply the Universal Laws of Magic as a young witch or wizard in training!

Supplies that will be provided by your tutor

Cost of $50 includes:

  • Organic dried herbs

  • Beeswax

  • Honey

  • Oils

  • Collage materials

  • Grimoire materials

NOTE: Supply costs will be collected by the tutor before Camp Creative.

Supplies that you need to bring to class

  • All materials are provided, but if you have anything (photos, images, special pens etc.) you want to use in your collages please feel free to bring them along.

Learning outcomes

  • Students will create a herbal oil, salve, tea blend, bath mix, and flower essence.

  • Using mixed-media collage, drawing, and crafting, students will create beautiful, personalised grimoires (spellbooks) to record their magical journey for years to come.

WEEK PLAN

DAY ONE

  • Explore and create herbal tea blends (fresh and dried)

  • Learn the uses of different herbs

  • Forage and process wild plants

  • Make a herbal oil

  • Get started on our grimoire (personal magical spellbook)

DAY TWO

  • Make herbal bath mixes

  • Learn plant identification and practice botanical drawing

  • Begin mixed-media collages for our grimoires

  • Explore divination, dreams and synchronicity.

DAY THREE

  • Make a herbal salve

  • Practice herbal first aid techniques

  • Learn seed saving and growing herbs from cuttings

  • Continue working on our grimoires

  • Make flower mandalas and practice plant communication

DAY FOUR

  • Make flower essences and a seasonal remedy and explore the wheel of the year.

  • Use collage, photocopying and drawing to make herbal zines.

DAY FIVE

  • Finish our zines, grimoires and herbal products.

  • Make vision boards for the year ahead and learn how to safely apply the Universal Laws of Magic as a young witch or wizard in training!

COURSE TUTOR

Meg Collis

Meg has a Masters degree in Ecology and a decade of experience teaching environmental education programs at CERES Community Environment Park and CSIRO Education. She studied visual art at RMIT and has spent the past 5 years studying herbalism, meditation, magic and the fascinating new science of plant intelligence.

She is passionate about inspiring the next generation to connect with the natural world through play, curiosity and reciprocity.
