COURSE PLAN
DAY ONE - Pre-production
We meet and greet each other, discuss our favourite films, and do a few icebreakers to start the day.
We move into movies we know and love, how they are made, and what structure they use to convey a universal message we can all understand.
Break down scenes, learn how to act them, and put our new skills to the test.
Watch the original film scenes we have just acted and analyse how they were filmed to support the director’s vision.
To end the day, we discuss what genre of short films we want to make and our preferences for who to work with.
DAY TWO - Writers’ room
Get into pre-assigned groups and discuss the story we want to tell.
Apply structure, share rough ideas on where to film, and decide who will take on each role. Then we divide the workload and write our scenes.
After finishing, we come back together to refine the script so it flows well. If we finish early, we can start filming.
Remember your costumes and props for the next day!
DAY THREE - Quiet on set!
We have our screenplay and are ready to shoot.
Find our location, warm up our acting voices, and film our scenes.
Find problems, make adjustments, have brilliant ideas, and capture cinematic moments.
DAY FOUR - Reshoots & post-production
Open our laptops and get the coffee brewing.
Start by learning the basics of DaVinci Resolve, a professional-standard editing software. If we need any additional footage, we capture it quickly.
Trim our clips, fine-tune to picture lock, edit sound, and colour grade for cinematic beauty.
DAY FIVE - Get it in for the film festival deadline!
Continue editing and ask if anything is missing.
If we have spare time, we can film ‘B-roll’ or ‘specials’ to complete our story.
Get the popcorn popping. We present our screenplay, share what they mean to us, and let the projector roll.
After the screening, we put on our tough skin and discuss each film as a class. This is an important part of the process.
Part ways with the skills and passion needed to make our next film.
