COURSE TUTOR
Mary McMillan
Mary McMillan is a self-taught hand embroidery artist. Growing up in regional NSW, Mary was first introduced to embroidery as a child, being taught basic stitching by her mother.
During the lockdowns of the 2020 pandemic, she rekindled her love of the craft and began selling her work through local craft markets. Inspired by the abundance of moss, lichen and fungi in the New England region she has developed techniques to recreate these natural elements in thread and fabric and combine these with found objects such as wood.
Since 2024 she has been exhibiting her stitched artworks in local galleries around the Armidale region. Most recently her work was selected to be part of the 2026 Collective exhibition at the Inverell Art Gallery.
