Required skills & experience
Not for absolute beginners, you must know some chords and other basics.
However there is no prerequisite to be able to read music or shred!

Learning outcomes
Learn right-hand technique, tone and gear considerations, jazz guitar concepts, rhythm guitar, and improvisation techniques.
Campers will also dive into scales, modes and jazz chords, as well as essential band etiquette, learning how to integrate these skills into ensemble settings.
COURSE PLAN
DAY 1: Welcome & Foundations
Learn essential techniques: posture, picking styles, string names, open-position chords, and major/minor.
Apply music theory: use the cycle of 5ths to write simple songs and start improvising.
DAY 2: The Blues
Explore blues forms and history: 12-bar blues, jazz blues, dominant 7ths, pentatonic/blues scales, fingerstyle techniques.
Apply music theory, learn blues phrases, licks. Improvise over different forms of blues.
DAY 3: Improvisation & Soloing
Build improvisation tools: phrasing, space, repetition, rhythmic soloing, melodic development.
Mixolydian, Melodic and Harmonic minor.
Apply the use of these scales over a jazz standard.
DAY 4: Revision of the first 3 days
Simple songwriting exercises.
Learning new repertoire in different styles.
DAY 5: Exploring Different Styles
Discover new genres and techniques: classical, Latin folk (rhythms & strumming), and bluegrass picking.
Revision of repertoire and final round of questions.
COURSE TUTORS
Katie Crane
Katie is a seasoned guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist with a thriving private teaching studio that she has run for seven years.
An active performer, she plays guitar for Wild Thyme and KT, Memo & Otis, while also frequently working as a session guitarist for various bands. Katie’s guitar playing ranges from jazz and blues, fusion and funk and bluegrass.
Emiliano Beltzer
Emiliano is a guitarist, bassist, educator and recording engineer aficionado born in Argentina. He studied music since age 6 at CREI school of Music (Santa Fe) where he obtained a Teaching Degree for primary school level. He continued his studies at Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Santa Fe, Argentina), where he did 4 years of the Bachelor in Music with Classical Guitar specialization.
He started performing and recording with bands at age 18. In 2013 he moved to Melbourne, and became part several musical projects: Santa Taranta, Amaru Tribe, Funkalleros, El Numero Perfecto, Ella Trinidad, Danilo Rojas and The New Monos, to name a few.
He also completed a Diploma in Sound Production at SAE. Since 2020 Emiliano lives in Bellingen, NSW, works as a guitar and bass teacher at the Regional Conservatorium of Coffs Harbour and at Bishop Druitt College, and performs regularly with multiple local acts.
