COURSE TUTOR
Dianne Conroy
Born in Sydney, Dianne Conroy has been immersed in the world of art and craft for as long as she can remember. Coming from a lineage of makers—her father a artist, her mother a seamstress, and her grandmother a wedding dressmaker—creativity was all around her.
In 2025, Dianne was honoured as Australia’s Fibre Artist of the Year, a recognition of her dedication to both her art and her support of the Australian wool industry.
Dianne began her journey as a professional artist at the Byron Bay markets in 1986. She then lived abroad for many years, first in London, where she continued selling her textile creations at local markets, and then in Tokyo from 1990. In Japan, she founded a successful business working with vintage kimono fabrics, teaching her signature techniques in wall art, quilting, and handbag design using vintage kimonos, yukatas, and obis. Her classes were waitlisted for years, a testament to her skill and innovation.
While in Tokyo, Dianne also studied needle felting under some of Japan’s most esteemed fibre artists, developing a deep passion for felted art—a medium she continued to explore after relocating to Singapore. There, her work began to evolve into the sculptural and richly textured forms she is known for today.
Now based in Brisbane, Dianne runs Wild Woolly, where she creates bespoke fibre art pieces and commissions. Also with an online business selling all things needle felting. Her work draws inspiration from her love of animals, the intricate elegance of Japanese art, the lush tropical landscapes of Singapore, and the vibrant beauty of her Queensland garden.
“The best course and Di was brilliant as an instructor.”
