⚠️ Extra info: This course is held in a woodworking classroom next to a lathe room. It can get hot and noisy and is not accessible for wheelchairs.
Required skills & experience
Students must be open to: learning, all demonstrations and being taught skills & techniques with all hand tools & some machinery.
You may already know some of this training, but it is important for you to be safe & know what the teacher expectations are. A safe workshop is a happy workshop!
Students need to be able to stand, lift to <15kg, use of walking stick ok, hearing loss ok (though teachers do not have auslan), stools will be available to sit while marking out and having a rest.

All materials needed to complete your Spotted Gum and Tassie Oak kitchen trolley including:
Aussie hardwood top panel & charcuterie board, front/back/side rails, legs, bottle rails, slats, shelving rails, wheels, dowels, top fasteners
Wine glass rack
NOTE: Supply costs will be collected by the tutor before Camp Creative.
Supplies that you need to bring to class
Steel cap work boots are mandatory, absolutely NO runners. If footwear is not suitable you will be asked to leave and get some.
Wear comfortable clothing, not too loose.
Long hair must be tied back.
A bottle of water and some snacks if you wish.
Learning outcomes
Students will leave the course with a wealth of knowledge and skills of woodwork and their lovely and very useful Kitchen trolley from various species of Aussie hardwood with a wine rack, charcuterie board and wine glass rack which is on wheels and beautifully finished.
WHS, WHS & WHS – We complete the workshop with all fingers and toes intact!

Accurate measuring & marking out using rulers, try squares, sharp pencils

Routers, thicknesser, drill press, trimmer, orbital sander, biscuit joiner, dowel machines.
COURSE PLAN
DAY ONE
WHS & Safety
Issue Timber
Read through and understand plans
Prep, marking out, cutting to length and naming pieces.
DAY TWO to FIVE
Follow teachers instructions and adhere to WHS at all times
Everyone will be going at the same pace
You will be taught to follow the plans and slowly and precisely make the trolley
The trolley will be finished by sanding through the grits
A small choice of finishing oils will be supplied
COURSE TUTOR
Gill Enterkin
Gill is passionate about educating Teachers in Industrial Arts Timber and empowering women with hands-on skills in woodwork & joinery, building confidence, self esteem and preparing women to consider trade apprenticeships.
She has been a TAS (Technical Applied Studies) teacher specialising in woodwork for 20+ years in high schools. Gill is also a VET Cert IV Training and Assessment, Cert III Cabinet Making – Furniture and has a Certificate II Construction Pathways.
Before teaching, Gill worked in electrical repairs, Logistics and Transport, as a Jilleroo and in hospitality. “All of these experiences have led me to create Woodchix, in the hope that I can help teachers and women forge their paths and realise their hopes and dreams”.
Anne Condren will be working alongside Gill as the assistant for this course.
