Confidently create physical booklets using 4-page, 8-page, and accordion-style folding techniques.
Master "cut and paste" techniques to visually combine disparate images, textures, and text into cohesive artwork.
Plan and execute a short-form story or thematic sequence using a logical workflow within a Zine structure.
Understand and apply simple hand-binding methods to secure longer-form DIY publications.
Learn how to design and lay out content specifically for black-and-white photocopying and mass distribution.
WEEK PLAN
DAY ONE
Dive into the world of Zines! Learn the classic "one-sheet wonder" folding technique to instantly turn a single piece of paper into an 8-page booklet.
Master cut-and-paste collage methods. Discover how to remix text and images to map out a short, punchy visual narrative.
Complete your very first mini-comic or personal Zine.
DAY TWO
Level up your structural skills. Learn how to craft a dynamic accordion-style booklet and explore simple, durable hand-binding methods for multi-page Zines.
Put the finishing touches on your artwork and learn how to prep a "Master Copy" so your Zine is ready for mass duplication on a photocopier.
Complete an accordion-style or hand-bound book, followed by a celebratory Zine swap with your fellow creators.
COURSE TUTOR
Louise Allerton
Louise Allerton is an Australian artist and arts worker with over 20 years of experience facilitating cross-cultural collaborations with Australian Indigenous communities.
Her work emphasises cultural protocols, decolonial methodologies, and the role of art in cross-cultural storytelling. A Master of Fine Arts graduate and current PhD candidate, Louise’s research explores Pitjantjatjara Sign Language through creative mediums such as photobooks, zines, and digital storytelling.
She has facilitated numerous workshops in experimental printmaking, including screen printing, linocuts, and collaborative zine production, and her hands-on experience making accessible printed works and immersive installations ensures a practical and dynamic learning environment for participants.
