Bush Furniture

$495.00
Sold Out

Use native materials to make a bush chair – a piece that will be authentic, unique and hark back to the bush skills of the early colonial days.

Terry will guide you to bring out the raw beauty of the wood and let its shape play a part in the design. He’ll help you identify readily available, naturally shaped materials and teach you the skills needed to construct a rustic bush chair, including a slatted seat. Then you get to take home your unique chair as a comfortable piece of furniture and a conversation piece.

You’ll learn basic bush furniture design, joinery techniques and the preparation of timber.

The course will involve using all the skills needed in the construction of rustic furniture:

  • Identifying and acquiring suitable timber

  • Basic design elements

  • Basic joinery techniques

  • Preparation of timber

  • The use of specialised tools in rustic furniture making

  • Timber finishing techniques

Upon completion of the course participants will be able to design and build any piece they can imagine, limited only by the requirements of sound joinery techniques.

For those with limited space in which to take the piece home, you can make a smaller version suitable for a child or grandchild.

At the end of the week you will have a beautiful and original piece of bush furniture to take home.

AGE: Suitable for ages 16 to adult

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner - Suited to those who are new to the course area or may have little or no experience.

SCHEDULE: Full Days - Monday 13 to Friday 17 January 2025 - 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

VENUE: Bellingen High School

“The camp was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. I did a course with my dad (75yrs) & sister. Our instructor Terry was so great. Best of all my 3 daughters made friends, learnt new skills & had so much fun. ”
